PROJECT ATHENA [CONTINUED]

A JOURNAL ON SHONNER'S PROGRESS OF BUILDING A WOMAN IN 3D

Here's the beginnings of Athena's eyes.

And some adjustments.

Seperated the iris into two halves in order to texture it better.

And the textured render.

Here's an HDRI render of them.

A red-eye flash render.

Adjusted the veins some. Note how they fade as they approach the iris. All procedural. I'm not using any painted texture maps.

Changed the iris color tones to blue and un-hid the skin for a quick draft render.

The blue wasn't working for me. Athena needs goddess-colored eyes. Also changed the veins. NOTE: The textures used here are all still procedural.

Ok. Her face is driving me nuts. I really would like to put some ears on her. But where exactly? I probably should at least give her a jaw line of some kind.

Not the greatest.

Adjusted some wires. And added some.

I know... she got more ugly. The highlighted polygons are where we'll place her ear.

A year literally goes by...

I just started playing with the Hexagon 2.2 update. It has fewer bugs finally, but a new one was introduced. One that I can't live with. So, back to version 1.21.

I removed some of the lines and have been trying out a more simplified mesh.

Yes, I've been putting off doing her ears. I think I'm afraid of ears actually. It would have been nice if I'd known this little fact way before ever starting this project.

Hexagon 2.5 was released. It is the most bug-ridden piece of software I have ever used. Ever. Carrara Pro 6 has been out for awhile. It also is bug-ridden. But not nearly as bad. But still, it is bug-ridden. Carrara Pro 5.1 is working like a champ for me still for doing my textures and rendering. I recommend getting a copy of 3D World Magazine #100 which has a free Carrara Pro 5.1 DVD included.

Update: April 28, 2008.

I've been learning modo 302 and have decided to use it instead of Hexagon for modeling the rest of Athena. I'll still use Carrara for baking Anything Goos textures onto my models. But modo will be doing the renders from now on. What took 15 hours to render in Carrara now only takes 15 minutes in modo. And modo renders much more realistic.
